The Tech Lab is CarFest’s exciting new celebration of technology, creativity, and community. Designed to ignite curiosity and inspire the next generation of innovators, it’s the perfect playground for tech enthusiasts of all ages. Blending interactive experiences, hands-on challenges, and immersive entertainment in a festival atmosphere that’s as fun as it is futuristic.

With live demos, hands-on workshops, competitions, and immersive installations, The Tech Lab transforms technology into an experience, one that’s social, sustainable, and full of discovery.

The Tech Lab is where ideas come alive and the future feels within reach. Here’s just a taster of the innovative new experiences we’ve lined up for you this year, the workshops are running all day, every day so just pop in and have a go!

Briony May Williams

After years of baking at home and cultivating her creativity and skill, Briony first came to the public’s attention as she launched onto our screens during nine stressful weeks in the tent on the 2018 series of The Great British Bake Off on Channel 4.

Progressing through the competition to the semi-final, Briony’s humour and warmth, coupled with her resilience and ingenuity saw her become a firm favourite with the audience.

Build CarFest in Minecraft

Let imaginations run wild as children step into a custom Minecraft world and help build CarFest at Silverstone. Inspired by everything they've seen and experienced across the festival, young creators can work together to recreate iconic CarFest attractions, dream up brand-new features, and design their own ultimate festival experience.

Blending creativity, technology and teamwork, this interactive session introduces children to the world of digital building and coding through play, giving them the chance to problem-solve, collaborate and bring their ideas to life in a safe, engaging environment. Whether they're constructing the Big Top, designing KidsFest, or imagining the next great CarFest attraction, every creation becomes part of the CarFest story.

With expert facilitators on hand to encourage and inspire, this is a fantastic opportunity for children to celebrate their creativity while discovering how imagination and technology can work together to build something truly amazing.

Artificial Intelligence is shaping the future, and this fun, interactive experience is designed to help young minds explore it in an exciting, accessible way. We'll bust some of the biggest myths around AI, answer curious questions, and show how this incredible technology is already part of our everyday lives. You’ll find Young Epilepsy in StarFest’s TechLab, where the team will be hosting a Purple Sectors Pop-Up.

This immersive sim-racing experience offers a taste of Young Epilepsy’s annual Purple Sectors event, where racing drivers and well-known personalities captain teams in this fiercely competitive fundraising challenge. Taking on the virtual Silverstone circuit, visitors can test their skills, chase the fastest lap times and see how they stack up against fellow festival-goers.

This year’s daily team captains include celebrity chef Tom Kerridge, legendary motorsport commentator David ‘Crofty’ Croft, and double Olympic medalist Matt Weston. Think you have what it takes to impress the captains and climb the leaderboard?

And when you head home, you’ll have earned some serious bragging rights—after all, how many people can say they drove a Purple Sector at Silverstone during CarFest?

The Smallpeice Trust is bringing engineering to life at CarFest with one of our popular drop-in, drop-out challenges. Designed to be hands-on, creative and easy to get involved with, these activities give young people a chance to discover the exciting world of STEM in just a few minutes. This year, we're inviting young people to take on our Crash Test Challenge. Using simple materials, they'll design and build a front bumper that helps protect passengers by reducing the force of a collision.
