It says a lot about Lando Norris that at only 23, he became McLaren's senior driver. It is the only time in his racing career that he's been the older driver in a team, but with four years, multiple podiums and a pole position in his pocket at the time, he wasn't short of experience.
Lando has established himself as a consistent and adept racer over four seasons. Initially displaying a shy demeanor upon joining as a Test and Simulator Driver in 2017, he has grown into a confident and witty leader with boyish charm. Lando's racing prowess began with karting, where he achieved numerous titles and became the youngest karting world champion at 14, a record once held by Lewis Hamilton.
His transition to single-seaters proved promising, earning him multiple championships and the McLaren Autosport BRDC Young Driver Award in 2016. Lando's journey continued with victories in European Formula 3 and F2, where he emerged as a frontrunner. His debut season in F1 as a teenager showcased his talent, outperforming his teammate in qualifying battles and securing points finishes.
In his second F1 year, Lando secured his maiden podium and consistently achieved top- 10 finishes, aiding his team's strong Constructors' Championship performance. He continued to impress in 2021, with multiple podiums and near-miss wins. Adapting quickly to regulation changes and new car designs in 2022, he stood out in a competitive midfield, securing an unexpected podium.
By the end of the season, Lando was the sole non-top- three team driver to achieve a podium finish. His rise as a skilled and consistent F1 frontrunner was marked by his determination and adaptability, showcasing his potential to continue thriving in the sport.
Oscar Piastri's meteoric rise in the Road to F1 saw him make history as the first driver to consecutively win Formula Renault, Formula 3, and Formula 2 over three seasons.
Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, Piastri began karting at 10 and moved to England in 2016 to pursue his F1 aspirations. His breakthrough came in 2019 when he clinched the Formula Renault Eurocup title with seven wins and 11 podiums.
In Formula 3, Piastri's debut was delayed by COVID-19, but he displayed astute tire management, raw pace, and consistent performances to win the championship in a tense season finale. Moving up to Formula 2 with PREMA, he secured five consecutive pole positions and dominated the championship with six wins and multiple podiums, securing the title before the season's end.
A graduate of the Alpine Academy, Piastri tested for the team and served as the Reserve Driver for the Alpine F1 team in 2022. He joined McLaren in late 2022, embarking on a comprehensive preparation program. Carrying his karting number, #81, on his McLaren car, Piastri became the first driver since 2014 to have this privilege. His remarkable consistency, learning ability, and strong performances mark him as a rising star in the world of Formula 1.
After joining McLaren in late 2022, Oscar officially linked up with the team at the end of the F1 season to begin an extensive preparation programme, which included the Abu Dhabi Young Driver Test and private tests.
Oscar will run #81 on his McLaren car, which was his number in karting. He will become the first driver to carry #81 since drivers were able to choose their race number in 2014.
