An iconic UK brand, the RAC provides complete peace of mind to 13 million UK private and business drivers, whatever their motoring needs. As well as its premium nationwide breakdown assistance service – with an expert branded patrol workforce attending more than two million breakdowns every year – it offers a wide range of market-leading products across insurance, legal services, vehicle inspections and service, maintenance and repair.
The RAC is also at the forefront of helping drivers make the switch to electric vehicles (EVs). It has developed a lightweight mobile charging unit for its patrol vans to give emergency boost to flat or severely depleted EVs creating a 21st century version of a fuel can for electric cars.
In addition, it has also adapted the rapid deployable towing system on its vans so that EVs and other vehicles can be recovered safely with all four wheels off the road. The All-Wheels-Up rapid recovery system is now in the majority of RAC vans. It saves members having to wait for a separate tow truck to move them because it’s like having a flatbed in every RAC van.
In January 2022 the RAC also became the first national roadside assistance company to put an electric van into service. While no electric van is yet capable of towing, the Renault Zoe E-Tech van is being used to attend the four-out-of-five breakdowns RAC patrols fix on the spot.
